March Of The Machines
Technology is making our lives simpler, and helping Industry to be more efficient, but is it at the cost of our jobs?
Everyone thinks about "what they want to be when they grow up". Do you have to take another look at what you've planned, or start thinking of a new career, because of advances in technology? If you think about it, it's a good thing that we've rolled out the ACP program, because it's important to be aware of what your talents, skill, and abilities are, and how they align with what's waiting out there in the world.
What is the job market going to look like when you look for that first job?
Discuss this idea. I've just given you a couple of questions to get the thought process going.
60 Minutes: "March of the Machines"

The job market has already started taking over jobs as a greeter, a delivery person, and even to open doors. I don't like the idea of having machines work others jobs because it could leave those people jobless and they won't have any money. What happens if a machine malfunctions? Things can go wrong in many ways if the machines are built correctly.
ReplyDeletegood point jaxon i fully agree with you
Deleteyou are right Jaxon but there also is a large amount of people who say that they are going to work and then not get a job and rely on someone else to support them. Having a job is important but some people don't want to work.
DeleteGood point Jaxon. Although, jobs will open as robot mechanics and programers, so we lose some jobs, and gain some.
DeleteI agree with you jaxon if robots take over alot of our jobs it would be hard to get hired for a job.
Deletewell i think that robots are going to help us with our jobs but i do not think robot will make us lose our jobs their is other robots that make our cars drive them self or there is robots that will be the new type of ober eats all think most robots are helpful
ReplyDeleteI don't think robots are going to take over my job before I graduate college, maybe in in my kids or grandkids generation SOME jobs will be taken by robots like cashiers, bank tellers ect, so in general I think most jobs will be safe, but not all of them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this, I think robots will over take simpler jobs like you said said but jobs like a doctor or a business owner will be fine.
DeleteI agree with this also, the kids and teens of the future have less of a chance of having a job then us kids and teens now.
DeleteI agree too! It will take a while for robots to take a lot of the jobs, and some will be safe.
DeleteI agree I don't think it will affect us.
Deletei agree with all of you guys those are really good points
DeleteI agree with you Hanna. we shouldn't have to worry but maybe our kids or grandkids will. But we will be so used to that idea it will be like nothing ever changed.
DeleteI agree, but that brings up a very interesting point of "when does it happen"?
DeleteAyden, I think it will happen in 50-100 years maybe, how about you?
DeleteI agree with Hanna it will definitely take some time for robots to be a threat to alot of jobs.
DeleteI think that robots in big company's were more of a need than a want. There is a lot of people who complain about not having a job but they are too lazy or "busy" to get a job. If people would take a job when its offered and not wait or quit after 2 days of working we would not need robots to do our jobs. Robots do help company's but they cost a lot of money and cost a lot to keep up with it.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Not every company will have the money to make and maintain these robots.
DeleteI think getting a job as a teenager is going to be harder in a few years because simple jobs like a cashier could be completely taken over by robots. Then if you go into a job like working in a factoring, then you could easily get your job taken by a robot. I think we are going to continue to build robots to do more things in life.
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly my point Haley! I feel like technology is cool and all but the fact that jobs like that will be taken over is upsetting.
DeleteI think this is right haley. I think that little jobs like that will be taken by robots.
DeleteI think finding jobs will get harder as the technology world grows, but it won't be impossible obviously. Different jobs will open up when they need more people to build these robots, but I think that robots should be used as helpers instead of taking on an entire important job.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Camryn. I think that jobs will open up to start building robots, and that they should be used as helpers.
DeleteI agree camryn they shouldn't take over like the whole job that a person has.
DeleteI think robots will start taking over our big jobs. I don't think any job is safe from robots. I think robots will be good for simple jobs, but not the jobs like a doctor or a chef.
ReplyDeleteGood point Gracie, it's easy for robots to take over simple assembly line jobs but it's harder to replace more complicated jobs.
DeleteI agree with you Gracie. They will not be able to take the jobs of doctors.
DeleteI think that eventually most simple and easier jobs like assembly lines will be replaced with robots. But there's some jobs that are harder to replace with robots. Jobs that require human contact and emotions are less likely to be taken by robots, like nurses, day care agents, and therapists.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good point, Olivia. I agree that human contact and emotions are subjects that robots shouldn't handle when doing jobs that humans could do. I hadn't even thought about therapists before you mentioned them, and I think that's a really good point.
DeleteI agree with you Olivia. Things that require human contact might be safe from robots taking over the jobs.
DeleteI agree. Robots can't replicate human emotions, so they won't be able to take some jobs.
DeleteI believe that some smaller working jobs will be eventually taken by robots. I also believe that they will not take over the entire job market. I think that there are still jobs that are too complex for robots to handle, so they must be done by humans.
ReplyDeleteYes Tony I agree, the robots might take some of our jobs, but not all of them.
DeleteYes I agree Tony, I don't think the job market is going to be completely taken over. I think even if they do take more hands-on jobs, someone is going to have to program and maintain them so the software jobs will most likely increase.
DeleteYes I agree Tony, I don't think that all of the jobs will be taken over because not all company's will not have the money to buy robots.
DeleteI agree a lot of jobs would be too hard for them, and also customers would probably rather deal with a person than a robot.
DeleteI do think that robots will replace people for easy jobs, jobs like a cashier. Robots wont take all jobs tho or at lease I hope they don't. Harder jobs like doctors and harder jobs like that, robots shouldn't take.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and there will always need to be people to fix and program the robots.
DeleteI agree sometimes in jobs things cant be calculated like a robot would
DeleteI think that robots are advancing to be able to perform some tasks, like working in a factory and doing assembly line things, but I feel like it would be harder to make a robot that would be able to interact with people the same way a person would, for example- a cashier, a bartender, or a doctor. Things like that would be harder to get robots to do.
ReplyDeleteI agree, i think it will be hard for robots to interact with people
DeleteI agree, robots will never be able to replace some jobs that only people can do
DeleteWe all know that robots are taking over some simple jobs that the people don't want to do, and as we further advance into our lives and future it seems like more of an education is needed to get a certain job. In todays age we cant just start at the bottom and work our way all the way to the top like our parents did, but there is a catch to robots developing. As robots are being made this takes a lot of time and money to also maintain but people are starting to try and go for a phd or a high paying job making trade jobs open up a lot.
ReplyDeleteI can agree, I really enjoy your in depth analysis of this
DeleteI completely agree, Max. Great points!
DeleteI think that robots are a good thing to a point. Having robots doing the jobs that could put someone in harms way is a good thing. For example robots that look for people after a natural disaster are good because they are keeping people safe.
ReplyDeleteThats true, robots could potentially make jobs safer for people.
DeleteI think that getting a job will get harder because of the new things coming to the world. Simple jobs that teens look for are getting taken over by the robots. There will still be jobs out there but it will be a smaller job world for the younger people. Most of the big job should stay because I don't think the robots will be able to do some of the things us as people can do.
ReplyDeleteI agree Olivia, I don't think robots can do some things people can
DeleteI think that robots are taking some jobs in places like factories and assembly lines, but they're also creating lots of jobs. There are now jobs repairing or maintaining those same robots, but advancing technology also creates jobs like astronaut, or pilot. Those relatively new jobs would be absolutely nothing without robots and new innovations in technology.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good point, Haley! It didn't even cross my mind that new jobs would be created with the use of robots, because people need to maintain them, but you're definitely right about it.
DeleteThis is a great point Haley. Repairing the robots that work on the assembly lines is a great job opportunity.
DeleteI believe that robots are a very useful tool, while one job may be taken away, another job might be given. In that sense it just causes easier opportunities for humane life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement about how jobs can possibly open up due to robots but i just hope enough open up to where the homeless and poor people get better jobs taking them off of the streets
Deletei agree max. when a door closes a window opens so there can be a big opportunity
DeleteI think there is a lot of pros and cons to use coming so far in technology. Although it may take more hands on jobs away from people it can also produce more computer and software based jobs. Whether we like it or not, hands on jobs are going to become more and more scarce so we really have to start getting accustomed to this new time and what it is bringing us

ReplyDeleteI agree I could become harder to find entry level jobs.
DeleteI think that may be harder to find an entry level job, mostly because they usually pertain to east tasks that could be done by a robot. I think that in general at this point in time people are still a bit distrustful of the capabilities of robots so a majority of jobs are probably still going to be available to our generation. It will probably be the next one that has to worry the most.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, I think robots are not completely trustworthy yet, and they still need to come a long way. I think in general people' job are safe for now.
DeleteI believe not that robots are going to take over the workforce, but are going to instead take over the meticulous or more dangerous jobs. We don't have to worry about our jobs being taken, because some jobs are far too complex for AI's. It's a possibility for someday in the future, that robots will take our jobs, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI believe that robots will take over some jobs from people, but I don't think it would be that many jobs that anybody should be worrying about it because it wouldn't happen for a while yet.
