The Making of An Online Celebrity

The Making of an Online Celebrity

There has NEVER been a time in the history of the planet when people had the ability to become instant "celebrities" (or "influencers") as you can today. Think about it: Philip DeFranco, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber - a person can be "discovered" instantly, just by posting a video - even a SEVEN SECOND video.

Read this article from 2015 about a Vine "celebrity", named Jerome Jarre. Take a look at the videos that are linked in the article also:

"Jerome Jarre: The Making of a Vine Celebrity"

Not only has this guy become famous in an instant, but it also looks like he's not just a "flash in the pan" because it seems as though he understands how to use social media apps to promote himself and other things around him. [Update: He and everyone else IS a "flash in the pan" as far as Vine is concerned - since they pulled the plug on Vine!]

Had you heard of Jerome before reading the article? What do you think of what he's done on Vine?  What do you think about this kind of opportunity with mobile apps, such as Snapchat? Can anybody do it? Will such fame last, and is it something that can be made into a legitimate business?

HERE is his YouTube channel.

  1. I have not really heard of Jerome before this article but he seemed to mess with people a lot on the Vine app.Back in like 2010, it was easier to get internet views because less people were uploading videos. In the year of 2020 now though, there are so many people uploading to get views that it's hard to even get noticed. If you are patient enough, you could possibly get views. But the thing is, that could take years. But it's always good to give it a shot.

    1. I agree Jaxon. It is extremely hard to get noticed but they only way that you will get noticed is if you make yourself heard.

    2. That's a good point Jaxon! But, while there are a lot more people on the internet, you still are able to get viewers faster than when there was only a few people on the internet.

  2. I have not heard of him before this. I think he is funny and did good content on vine and on youtube. I think that it is a fantastic thing if you do want to get your name out there in the world. It males it a lot easier. I think if you have the talent anyone can do it. Yes I do believe that fame can last but you have to work hard to keep it. And yes I believe it can be made into a business but you have to work for it.

    1. I agree that you have to work hard to keep the fame. Once you have it, you have to keep working to keep it going.

    2. I agree Haley, if you do your best and keep up good work, you will get the fame you want.

    3. I agree with you, Haley! I think that working hard to keep your fame is something that everybody has to do, and tries to do, but not everyone seems to be successful with it. I also agree with you that it can be made into a business if you work hard enough for it.

    4. I agree with Haley Like alot of people are famous and then next thing you know they're forgotten because they didn't work hard to keep the fame and they lost it.

  3. I have not heard of Jerome before, but I think you have a chance to get famous, pretty easily actually. I think anyone can do it, just make a good video and get on the for you page. I also think fame can last, once sponsors and company's see you, then you can actually keep your fame going.

    1. This is a really good point. Once you get noticed by someone and get a sponsor then you'll get paid for what you are doing.

    2. Good point Hanna. Once sponsors notice you, it's really easy to turn your fun videos into a job.

      Delete
    3. You're right Hanna, anyone can get famous on Tik Tok, and its a good way to get famous too.

    4. I agree with you, Hanna. If you can get sponsors and company deals then you can make that a full-time job.

    5. I agree Hanna once you get famous the sponsors will come and you will make more money.

  4. I believe the fame will last for some people and others won't. David dobrik was vine famous and he still is. But a guy named Austin Miles was vine famous and after it shut down nobody ever heard from him. It only works for some people.

    1. Good point Ross, people who are famous started a while back when the internet wasn't loaded with creators and it was easier to be noticed.

    2. I agree, I think it's just the amount of effort put into keeping the fame.

    3. I agree also once you become famous you have to work hard to stay famous or you will be forgotten.

  5. I have never heard of Jerome before Mr. Haeger told me about it. I think that opportunities like these on apps like Vine, or Tik Tok, or Instagram, can be good opportunities to help the world. I think that anyone that puts their mind to it can do it. I think that the fame does sometimes last, but also sometimes dies out. So it's probably not the best way to make a living, and you should have a backup.

    2. I do agree with this I think that the fame can die out and you definitely need a backup plan and don't rely on your fame.

  7. I hadn't heard of Jerome's content before reading the article on him, but he seems like he made good content. I think internet fame, and fame overall, is something that's getting easier to achieve, but something that's more difficult than ever to be able to keep. Social media is definitely making things easier for people trying to become famous, but because of how fast paced internet trends can be, it's difficult to keep it. I think if someone works hard enough, though, they can keep their fame, and turn it into a business if they had the desire to.

    1. Cas I agree 100%. Fame is getting easier and easier to achieve with things like YouTube and Tik tok. But it's also a hard thing to keep. So If you work hard enough than I believe that you can make it into a business and a success.

    2. Yes Tony I agree, basically everyone dies out, but not the legends because legends never die.
      RIP KOBE!!!

    3. I agree with you Cas. Being famous is something that nowadays, is a lot easier to achieve. What's hard is staying famous, and keeping up with what everyone is interested in.

  8. I 100% agree, it can be hard to keep your fame

  9. I had never heard of Jerome before reading the article, but he seems like a good content creator. I personally think it's becoming too easy to be famous honestly. People are getting famous over one video and gaining millions of followers. Not everyone can keep their fame though which does take skill to do. I think it can turn into a business if they care enough and work hard enough to keep it.

    1. I agree with you, Camryn! I think it's really easy to get famous online, but it's difficult to keep the fame. I think you do have to care about what you're doing to turn it into a business, as well.

    2. I agree Camryn. I think the biggest challenge in fame, is seeing how well you are able to keep and maintain that fame.

  10. I have never heard of Jerome until now. I think it is getting easier and easier to get famous. You can post something on Youtube and Tik Tok, and you can get famous overnight. I don't think that getting famous off of an app for the long term, but it is cool for a while.

    3. I agree with you Gracie, I think teens are on social media so much that people will see your vids easily.

    4. Thank you Hanna for agreeing with me. Also thank you Haley.

    5. I agree with you Gracie. People make simple videos all the time and they go wild but if they keep posting what people want to see they could keep the fame.

    6. I disagree Gracie its not as easy as it sounds, I'm only syaing this because their are so many people trying to get famous so for you to get noticed is pretty slim, but if you do then youll be set.

    3. You make a great point. It is risky putting everything into social media and it is a great idea to have something else to do.

  12. I had never heard of him before this, but he seems funny. I think it's easy to get famous on YouTube or TikTok as long as you're funny and know how to make a good video. That fame won't last unless you can keep it up, though. If you can market it correctly, you can turn it into a way to make a living.

  14. I personally had never head of Jerome before reading this article. I think that now it's a lot easier to become famous, simply because almost everyone has access to the internet. And as soon as you publish, let's say a song that you wrote on Youtube, anyone has access to it. While it is easy to become famous briefly, it's a lot harder to keep your fame. If you have the creativity and drive to keep making the kind of content that made you famous in the first place, I think that you can make a career out of it.

  15. I have not heard of Jerome before I read this article. I think what he was able to do on Vine set an example for many people after. I think having these mobile apps really helps in being able to gain popularity. You can post whatever you want, whenever you want for millions of people to see. I also think that really if you put your mind to it, and come up with good quality content, anyone can become famous. Different videos will attract different people and you just have to find your style. I think most of this social media fame tends to be temporary because people eventually get bored, but I think switching it up between social media apps, keeping quality content, and just doing things that appeal to your audience can make the fame be more long term, and actually help you make a business out of it.

  16. I have not heard of him before. I think that if you put out on the internet what the prople want to see and if the right people see it, then it could go viral. Having these mobile apps do help alot with popularity. If you get one good video out there then people will start looking at your page and you very well could become famous on the internet.

  17. today I feel like you can be famous but not actually be "famous" ther is people that have thousands of followers on instagram, tiktok and other social media platforms but no one really knows who they are, If anything I think the trend is what gets people noticed with this short time of glory and fame. As easy as it comes it can go even easier.

  18. Personally I have never heard of Jerome up until this article, although I do have to say that getting famous in todays day and age is easier than ever. With one or two strikes of luck we can easily blow up. What people don't realize is how much hard work and time you have to put in to continue this success.

  19. I have never heard of Jerome before, but i guess that I've heard of people with similar situations, in that they become famous online. Whether not people become famous has become quite a bit easier just bases off of how many people and faces and videos we see daily through our phones and computers. Because of that, it can also be difficult to keep that fame because online and social media are constantly changing.
